MADDI

The days following that dreadful call from Troy was nonstop idiocy. Dr. Brian Anderson’s death has been the talk of the town, turning local gossip into a national syndication overnight. The morning after his body was discovered, cameras and microphones greeted me on my way out the driveway. I kept hoping they would not hit my brand new Lexus LS 500. I just got the damn thing and I didn’t need any dents to wear off the new car shine. Staying with my sister, I’m thankful to have the extra measure of a home security system equipped with very fine and buff human shields. God knows what those vultures would have done had we not had the extra protection. That was not the case when I tried to go into the police station. I had to call Troy to come out and assist me so that I could get into the building. Inside we combed over the whole case again like it was day one.

What we found out will cost me a few sleepless nights. The man had a lot of skeletons in his closet. He had been medically discharged from the army for his mental illness, narcissistic personality disorder, and homicidal thoughts. He never sought treatment. A search warrant for his home reviled the depths of his obsession with our family. On his computers there were secret files on each one of us Maci, Makaila, and myself. Each cataloging our lives from birth up until the trial. Our whole lives were in those files. What was also in there were his plans on taking us out one by one. He fantasized about our deaths. He could have written a book on a thousand ways to kill a Windstorm. One after another word document depicted in a sinister manner how we were to die.

If this man would have gotten his way, I would no longer be here. How close I came to dying hit me hard when we found out he was the shooter behind Ms. B’s death. Turns out he planned on taking us all out then. Had he not got interrupted, he might have succeeded. Passing cars put a stop to his shooting. He didn’t want to take a chance getting caught out in the open. According to his typed words, he came up with a new plan and he wrote it out in hard to read, painful detail. Something must have happened before the trial, something unexpected. Because he never saw it through. Maybe it was guilt or remorse. I have a feeling that it has something to do with his wife. She might be the key to finding out why he didn’t follow through with his plan. Particularly after he found out that his intended targets were still alive.

Paulette Anderson might have played a part in saving our lives. Or she could have helped her husband plan hateful acts against us. Either way, she has not been seen in some time now. Anderson had told several people that she had left him.
